Class Schedule

Classes at Tucson Yarn are a great way to learn new techniques and have fun with other knitters. You may register in person or by telephone and payment is due at the time of registration. No materials or tools are included in program fee unless noted. We reserve the right to cancel a class due to insufficient enrollment. 

Knit Now: Part 1 (Basic knitting for new or returning knitters)

3 sessions: 90 minutes each

Mondays, November 19, 26, December 3

12noon – 1:30pm

Instructor: Nancy

Fee: $40 

Jump into knitting now with this fast track to learning the fundamentals of knitting. Learn the basic nuts and bolts (knitting, purling, increasing, decreasing), how to read a pattern, and how to select the perfect yarn for your project. Emphasis here is on helping you become a successful and relaxed knitter.

 Prerequisites:  None

 Materials:       #9 straight needles

4 oz. worsted weight yarn in light color

scissors

paper and pencil

small ruler or stitch gauge

 

Felted Slippers Workshop

2 sessions: 90 minutes each

Thursdays, November 29 and December 6

6:30 pm – 8:00 pm

10am-11:30am

Instructor: Heather

Cost:  $45 

Plain or fancy, striped or solid, everyone loves felted slippers. Learn the basic techniques and finish the first slipper in class. Basic felting techniques will be covered. These slippers work up quick on big needles and you’ll have time to make several pairs for holiday gift giving.

The Swing Cape

1 session:  2 hours

 Create a sophisticated and flattering cape out of the fabulous specialty yarns we’re famous for. This dramatic shawl flatters every figure type and progresses quickly on large needles. Let the yarn do the work on this terrific project!

                        2 hanks Prism Stuff or half-hank Stuff with “soup”

The Perfect Mitered Shawl

Tuesday, December 4

10am-12am

1 day workshop & Knit Alongs

Fee:  $20 

Master one of the hottest design techniques in knitting, the mitered square. The knitting is easy once you understand the mechanics, try your hand at a beautiful shawl (that really stays on!) and let variegated yarn provide the color magic.  

Prerequisites:  Basic knitting skills including cast–on, knit, purl

 Materials:       Plymouth Pattern #1110 (available for purchase at TYC)

                        Needles to obtain gauge

1000 yards of worsted weight yarn preferably variegated   

(e.g. Plymouth Boku or Noro Kureyon)

                        Scissors

                        Locking stitch markers

           

Welcome to Sock-land!

Due to popular demand, we’ve added extra sock classes to the schedule. Three different methods to create wonderful, comfy and perfect-fit socks are available. Pick one and get started! 

Sock It To Me: Socks on Double Point Needles

3 sessions: 90 minutes each

Wednesdays January 9, 16, 23

12 noon – 1:30 pm

 Think socks are the Mt. Everest of knitting? Get started knitting the best socks that you (or your special someone!) will ever wear with this beginning sock knitting class. Self-striping yarn is the secret to an amazing first pair. Basic knitting skills required.  

Prerequisites:  Basic knitting skills including cast–on, knit, purl

 Materials:        basic sock pattern (available at TYC)

Sock It To Me: Socks on Circular Needles

3 sessions: 90 minutes each

Tuesdays November 27, December 4, 11

10:00 am – 11:30 am

Fee:  $45 

Self-striping yarns and good old circular needles simplify sock knitting. From cuff to toe, the simple sock is transformed into a beautiful accessory. This technique is also great for sleeve knitting! Basic knitting skills required. Pattern provided for you. Most people finish one sock in class and get a start on the second one. Basic knitting skills required. 

Prerequisites:  Basic knitting skills including cast–on, knit, purl

two 24” circular needles in size for gauge (#1 or #2)

Sock It To Me: Toe Up Knitting

2 sessions: 90 minutes each

Jump into the fast lane of sock knitting with this ingenious toe-up method. No muss—no fuss here. If you’re looking for stress free knitting, this is it. 

Prerequisites:  Basic knitting skills including cast–on, knit, purl

Christmas Stocking

3 90-minute sessions

Wednesdays, December 5, 12, 19

Create a perfect holiday gift.  Nothing says “love” more at holiday time than a hand-made personalized stocking. Plain or fancy, traditional or funky, this will be an heirloom.

 Prerequisites:  Basic knitting skills including cast –on, knit, purl, bind-off. 

Materials:       Ann Norling Pattern #1018 (available for purchase at TYC)

                        #5 & #7 straight knitting needles

#7 double point needles

250 yards worsted weight yarn in main color + 120 yards in contrasting color

10-30 yards of various colors for details

scissors, paper and pencil

small ruler or stitch gauge

 

The Louisa Harding Bag

2 90-minutes sessions

Thursdays December 13, 20

6:30pm-8pm

 Just in time for the holidays, knit a stunning bag for you or a special friend. Five different Louisa Harding yarns make the magic in this one. The knitting is easy and we’ll help you put a color mix together that will be a sure-fire stunner. One won’t be enough and you’ll never look at your stash yarns the same way again! 

Prerequisites: basic knitting and sense of adventure

5 types of Louisa Harding yarns (approx. worsted weights)

                        #7 or #8 needles

Cable Confidence

2 sessions 90 minutes each

Fridays November 23 and 30

Come on - cables aren’t as hard as you think! Nancy makes it easy to be successful with this cable workshop. You’ll learn about a variety of cables, how to read the patterns with ease and then you’ll create a low-stress sampler that becomes a beautiful throw pillow. Just don’t tell anyone how easy it really is! Knit a great gift project for those hard-to-shop-for friends and family.
