| Special Holiday Hours
The Tucson Yarn Co. will be closed Friday, July 4th and Saturday, July 5th to celebrate the holiday weekend with friends and family (OK, there will also be some knitting going on ;-). Please come visit on Monday, July 6th.
Summer is in full swing here at TYC and the air conditioning is on for your knitting comfort! Come see us after the holiday and get inspired to start your holiday knitting EARLY this year. We'll have some great project ideas for you to check out - everything from the traditional hats, scarves, socks, and mittens to the unexpected lace and sampler projects. Check out our 40 colors of Mission Falls 1824 100% merino that is WASHABLE! Perfect for intarsia or fair isle knitting with all those colors, this yarn is just the thing for gift recipients who aren't so keen on hand washing their sweaters...just toss in the machine on gentle and air dry. Yummy wool for you to knit, easy care for them. With 14 pattern books and more on the way, there is something here for everyone on your list - even your four-legged pals!
Come check out Ava's beautiful circular lap afghan that is a revival of a 1942 doily pattern recently put up on Brooklyn Tweed's website. Gorgeous for a shawl, a throw, or even a special table, it's made on big, big needles with Cascade's Eco Wool and ends up being over four feet in diameter. You'll be looking at those old vintage patterns in a whole new way.
Nancy's having fun with a beautiful Four Seasons afghan from our pal Judith Shangold at Manos del Uruguay. Made in strips, it's great sampler knitting that's never dull. Why lug a huge afghan knitting project around when you can make bold blocks of color that are done in strips and assembled at the end? This is the perfect way to try 12 of the rich Manos Classica hand-dyed colors and learn some new stitch patterns in the process.
I've been busy whipping up an oldie-but-goodie pattern of Elizabeth Zimmerman's...check out the Baby Surprise Jacket made with seven bright colors of washable merino from Mission Falls. No pastels here...just lots of vibrant color and texture all knit in one funky piece that folds together into a little jacket (hence the name!). I also took a little trip to Colorado to attend a workshop with the amazing knit-diva designer, Nicky Epstein. Talk about inspiration! As if her 18 books hadn't said it all, there's three more in the pipeline. We'll be featuring her books in a series of fall workshops - check out her newest book on scarves - loaded with new takes on old favorites and some really out-there originals (hint: swiss cheese/mice).
More exciting knitty news coming to you soon - some great trunk shows and special events are in the works for fall. Have a great holiday and safe travels wherever you may be headed.
Lucky knitting to you all,
Cyd
